A Pre-Darwinian "Survival of the Fittest" Image
Here is La Beche’s drawing Duria Antiquior (An earlier Dorset), 1830. To me, it has an application to the character of the Victorian Age: that is, a vigorous and at time violent moil of competing ideas and systems, belying the accepted appearance of uniformity and agreement.
